Week 9

Week Nine: October 11-17, 2008
The most noticeable difference this week is my decreased aversion to meat. Lately, it has been a struggle to intake most proteins (a.k.a chicken, steak, etc.), so I had been eating a large amount of peanut butter! Fortunately, this week it hasn’t been so unappealing, and I have begun to eat some meat again! I usually prefer steak, but I have actually had some chicken as well! In fact, the night Daddy picked out your first Christmas outfit (see picture below) I ate chicken at TGI Fridays!!!

Isn’t it cute! It is from a Japanese baby store in Yokohama! I love the little feeties on the pants and how the reindeer feet actually move on the shirt! We can’t wait to celebrate next Christmas (2009) with our baby Bodkin and the rest of the family back in the United States… YAY!

Baby Development Notes:
My new resident is nearly an inch long — about the size of a grape — and weighs just a fraction of an ounce. Baby Bodkin is starting to look more and more human. The essential body parts are accounted for, though they'll go through plenty of fine-tuning in the coming months. Other changes abound: The baby's heart finishes dividing into four chambers, and the valves start to form — as do the tiny teeth. The embryonic "tail" is completely gone. The baby's organs, muscles, and nerves are kicking into gear. The external sex organs are there but won't be distinguishable as male or female for another few weeks. The eyes are fully formed, but the eyelids are fused shut and won't open until 27 weeks. The baby has tiny earlobes, and the mouth, nose, and nostrils are more distinct. The placenta is developed enough now to take over most of the critical job of producing hormones. Now that the baby's basic physiology is in place, Baby Bodkin is poised for rapid weight gain.
